CAD Worker jobs failing

Due to previous sins, we have a number of files without viewables and so started a job to recreate virtually all of them. The problem is that it's prone to failing.

 

At times, it runs fine and then everything will start failing and the job logs indicate "Error, did not find available worker of type PROE". When this happens, nothing will get through. Then, after pulling my hair out for a day or so, it'll start running jobs again (from time to time I resubmit a couple to see if anything's changed).

 

If I go to the Worker Agent Administration window, it indicates "Fails to Start" for the PROE worker. I had luck one time just clicking on the green flag to start the job, but that only worked once. These jobs all run in PublisherQueueL. "Standard" jobs from check-ins, promotion requests, etc come through fine in either the L or the M queue while these resubmitted jobs are failing.

 

What would cause the PROE worker to work only when it wants to (and how do I convince it to)?

unlock a file when offline

Working offline today since they doing maintenance and I forgot to unlock an assembly and a drawing I was planning on working on. Any idea if I can unlock the drawing in my workspace when I am offline?

How can I add pdf files to Windchill so our operations can view our production files?

We use Windchill's PDMLink for our Creo files, but we use a homegrown solution to publish PDF files for the rest of the organization's use.  We need to get rid of our homegrown solution due to our export controlled documentation doesn't meet specifications.  Any help is hugely appreciated.

Windchill Home Page (Updates Table)

What value/preference determines the number of objects listed in the Updates table (home page) and can it be changed?....I believe OOTB is set for 25 items, I would like to change this to 50 or more.

Windchill Database Relationships - As Stored Baselines

Curious if anyone knows what tables the "As Stored" baselines are kept in.  If I understand correctly, every time a group of related objects is checked in together, a hidden baseline is created.  This allows the "as stored" configuration to be recalled in the future (what version of each object was used).  I would like to know what database table(s) this information is kept in.  From what I can tell, EPMMemberLink and EMPReferenceLink are not the place.  Thanks.

PDMEssentials - Link between part / assembly and drawing

I read on the book :

" the drawing retrieves its geometry from its associated model, changes to the model are automatically reflected in the drawing and do not require the drawing's CAD document to iterate if the model geometry changes."

and I do not agree

my companies has rules mandating iterating the drawing when the model changes

how i can do it automatically , what setting i have to use

 

and

 

when i drain on workspace  the part or asm how i can download also their drawing, how is the setting ?

deleting files in WindChill - impossible?

We have a tremendous number of files that are obsolete or otherwise useless to us, and there doesn't seem to be any way to delete them in WindChill. We get all sorts of error messages, most of them stating that some sort of relationship exists. We know those relationships have been broken (family tables) yet we cannot delete anything. Most recently we got the following message:

 

wt.vc.VersionControlException cannot be cast to wt.epm.confilict.EPMNonOverrideableConflictException

 

This message makes absolutely no sense to anybody here and is obviously code for some sort of error that we cannot figure out. Is there ANYBODY out there who knows how to delete useless files?

Has anyone renamed a group in Windchill?  I would like to rename one group but would like to know if someone else has and if they ran into any problems.


Creo View not opening

Greetings all.

 

I have a question regarding Creo View and Windchill. There are a couple of users that are having issues with Creo View opening properly. They are able to see preview images in Windchill but when they click on the preview image, all they get is a new window with a white background. A number of us do not have this issue so I am thinking it has to be in the settings somewhere but I have not been able to find any differences in settings. I am either not looking in the right place, or they are someplace I can't get to.

 

We are using Windchill PDMlink 10.1 datecode M040 and Creo View version Creo 2.0 datecode M040 build 15.

 

Any assistance that you can offer will be appreciated.

Thingworx Windchill extension

I am exploring Windchill extension on Thingworx. PTC has built out of the box functionality to access windchill data using infoengine. I did not find much on REST implementation.

 

Has anybody found a documentation on Windchill REST framework.

Switched from Creo 2 to Creo 3 - now PTC_COMMON_NAME works differently?

Hi All,

 

I am wondering if you guys came across this issue:

We just switched to using Creo 3.  We were using Creo 2 with Windchill 10.2

 

Our start parts have these standard relations:

 

PART_NUMBER = rel_model_name()

PART_NAME = PTC_COMMON_NAME

 

PART_NUMBER and PART_NAME are designated parameters, and they are used in standard drawing's BOM tables.

 

Anyway, with Creo 2, when I renamed the CAD object in Windchill commonspace and downloaded this object to a workspace, then upon opening it and doing a regeneration, we'd get a warning about regenerating a read-only model.  Subsequently, when attempting to save it, the "checkout/continue/make read-only" dialog box would be shown.

 

Now, in Creo 3, sames scenario leads to the model regenerating without any notifications (which is kind of nice), and the model parameters are changed (silently).

However, if one does nothing else to this model, and tries to save it, then the system says "object not saved because it was not changed"  But that's obviously wrong, since the values of the PART_NUMBER and PART_NAME parameters have changed.

Moreover, one cannot check in these changes; the workaround seems to be to make a non-change to a model such as moving a feature in the model tree to a new spot and them moving it back to its old spot.

 

 

Is this the intended action?  On one hand, it kind of seems to work.  But I also seems wrong, and I will be looking at how this works with "as stored" drawings.

 

 

In the meantime, are there some settings in Creo 3 that I should know about and modify our standard configurations?

How can I get the OOTB ACLs?

Greetings Windchill Gurus,

I have been working with a Windchill instance that was implemented long before I came on board.  There has been many changes made to the system from OOTB.  Now I am cleaning up all the Access Controls.

 

Can someone tell me if there is any documentation of the OOTB ACLs available?

Converting WT file as End Item WT

I have 60 top level assemblies and I created wt part for the same. Now I need all 60 wt part to be converted as End Items. Can I do this in Windchill or should I remove association of all wt, delete wt's, create End item wt and then associate it again with respective assemblies?

What is ContextBasedAgreementType

Hi All,

 

Can anyone let me know what is ContextBasedAgreementType. I had encountered this element while i am trying to edit the securityLabelsConfiguration.xml file which is a part in creation of Agreements.

 

Is ContextBasedAgreementType a subtype of Agreement ? Can we find this is in Type and Attribute Manager Utility ? Or do we need to create a sub type of Agreement as ContextBasedAgreementType ? Can you please let me know about it.

Error while creating a part when Security Labels are configured

Hi,

 

I had configured Security Labels in my system. The method server is ready whenever i start and it doesn't crash. However few errors are being shown. PFB text of those errors.

ERROR [main] wt.access.agreement.StandardAgreementService  - configureAgreementService: The group defining the agreement managers was not set properly in the Security Labels configuration file.  This has the effect disabling the agreements UI and prevents write access to agreements for all users, including administrators.  Existing agreements will still be evaluated during access checks.

 

and then the method server gets ready.

 

However when i navigate to a Product and then create a part i am able to create the part successfully but i am not able to view the part created in the product folders. An error is being reported in the Method Server Log like

How to create an Agreement

Hi.

 

Within Security Labels Configuration file I included a tag for Agreement Configuration.

    <AgreementManagersGroup>

        <groupUfid>cn=Agreement Managers,ou=people,cn=AdministrativeLdap,cn=Windchill_10.2,o=xyz|Ldap.corp.xyz.com|Ldap.corp.xyz.com</groupUfid>

    </AgreementManagersGroup>

 

I then created a group called as Agreement Managers in Site Utilities and then added a user to that group.

 

However when i login with that user i am not able to find any icon to create a new agreement ? Can you please let me know if my process is right ? If not can you please let me know how to create the same ?

Importing and Exporting from Windchill

This process seems simple enough, but in Windchill it’s a nightmare. Here are the problems I get:

-I try to keep the instances out of my workspace for performance reasons. When I export from workspace, Windchill brings in every instance. My workspace goes from 2000 objects to 8000 objects. I have a custom view, that allows me to delete them faster, but this is time I don’t have.

-Import to workspace doesn’t work. It doesn’t recognize that the family table parts of the same name are in fact, the same parts.

-Importing deletes everything from session. It seems that the Pro/E core must be used to determine parent-child relationships.

-Some of the assemblies have hundreds or thousands of parts. This process is very slow. I have had this process take a week and as many as 23 premature exits in one day.

-If someone at my company renames the generic of a family table, I get incurable name conflicts and premature exits.

-If someone at my company creates one of the parts with the same name, I can’t rename my supplier’s part.

-to rename a part, I have to set my session to work offline with no server, rename the part, connect back to the server, and then save. This takes 20 minuets! 17 of the 20 minuets is just me staring at the hour glass.

-Once I have all of the models in my workspace I have to get rid of all of the name conflicts. Sometimes I use update, sometimes add works. Sometimes I have to delete all the instances, and then updates. I have thousands of these stupid name conflicts and each one need its own special attention.

-Some secret relations are created between parts. These cannot be found in the relationship viewer and are not ghost objects. It sometimes thinks that two totally unrelated parts must be checked in together. Sometimes I have to check-in parts that I would otherwise delete.

I am supposed to be a manager, providing technical guidance, not a Windchill-rat’s-nest-detangler. Of course it would be easier to have the supplier on our Windchill server, but that is not an option at the moment. Plus, they would hate me if I spread this curse to them.

 

Does anyone else work on large assemblies with and outside vender? If you could help me with any one of these problems I would appreciate it.

 

I am using Windchill PDMLink 9.1 with WF4 M110. We don’t use WTParts. Our network is a little slow

Hi folks,

 

We have Windchill instance hosted in the United States and 5 global replicas scattered throughout the world.  We are trying to get ODMs in Asia to adopt more typical usage using Creo / Windchill within the workspace but performance in some areas is very lack luster.  Even with regional / local replicas in place, the 250+ latency back to master combined with the ODMs own network challenges make Creo usage in a integrated workspace challenging and time consuming.  It seems PTC will not support a multi-master setup which leaves me wondering about further options.  So, plan B.  

 

How many of you use Windchill packaging?  Creo packing?  Are there any good presentations about how to set this up, what the pitfalls are, etc?  I think at this point I would like to do a proof of concept with select ODMs to see if packaging would be a better offline / working solution.

 

thoughts / anything to share?
