We have an HP-UX (HP 9000) with Oracle and Windchill 6.2.6 (PDMLink) and we want to migrate the application in a virtualized environment.

PA-RISC platform can't be virtualized, so we want to migrate in a windows server entire application and the database, but the problem is, can we move the application Windchill PDMLInk from HP-UX platform to windows platform? Can we migrate the database from Oracle to a Microsoft? What version and what platform windchill 6.2.6 support?

Another question is the following, the windchill was customized some time ago, so we can upgrade to version 7 or 8 or 9 or another, without source code of customization?

sorry for my bad english, I'm Italian. Yesterday I accidentally deleted a workspace, very important workspace and unfortunately I did not do any check-in. I tried to recover the files from the cache but I think deleting the workspace also cached files are deleted infact I can not find any valid part. I was wondering if someone had already happened this problem and if it was able to recover files how he did it.

I've recently installed Windchill 10.1 on a new and clean install of an oracle 11.2.0 database as a test/evaluation sytem. The install was succesful, however, when I start windchill the methodserver aborts with an error of;

"Nested exception is: java.sql.SQLException: invalid name pattern: WCADMIN.INSTANCE_ROW"

wcadmin is the username I created when going through the install process for both oracle and WC10.1

I tried to recover the files from the cache but I think deleting the workspace also cached files are deleted infact I can not find any valid part. I was wondering if someone had already happened this problem and if it was able to recover files how he did it.

I need to retrieve an attribute ("Operation") which which I have added to a Change Notice in a workflow expression - since the value of this attribute alters downstream activities.

So far I have got as far as:

Also by using the above code, does it matter that I want to retrieve the attribute from a soft type of the change notice.

I do NOT need to upgrade windchill itself (we will stay at 10.1 M010)

I am working on a new Process Workflow for a Change Request. The CR uses a Team Template to populate some Roles into the CRB.

I am able to create new roles (that are not listed in the Out Of Box list) but they do not show up in the available roles to add to the Team Template?

The new Role is at the Org level.

The CR Team Template is at the Org level.

The Workflow is at the Site level.

The Life Cycle is at the Site level.

This process seems simple enough, but in Windchill it’s a nightmare. Here are the problems I get:

-I try to keep the instances out of my workspace for performance reasons. When I export from workspace, Windchill brings in every instance. My workspace goes from 2000 objects to 8000 objects. I have a custom view, that allows me to delete them faster, but this is time I don’t have.

-Import to workspace doesn’t work. It doesn’t recognize that the family table parts of the same name are in fact, the same parts.

-Importing deletes everything from session. It seems that the Pro/E core must be used to determine parent-child relationships.

-Some of the assemblies have hundreds or thousands of parts. This process is very slow. I have had this process take a week and as many as 23 premature exits in one day.

-If someone at my company renames the generic of a family table, I get incurable name conflicts and premature exits.

-If someone at my company creates one of the parts with the same name, I can’t rename my supplier’s part.

-to rename a part, I have to set my session to work offline with no server, rename the part, connect back to the server, and then save. This takes 20 minuets! 17 of the 20 minuets is just me staring at the hour glass.

-Once I have all of the models in my workspace I have to get rid of all of the name conflicts. Sometimes I use update, sometimes add works. Sometimes I have to delete all the instances, and then updates. I have thousands of these stupid name conflicts and each one need its own special attention.

-Some secret relations are created between parts. These cannot be found in the relationship viewer and are not ghost objects. It sometimes thinks that two totally unrelated parts must be checked in together. Sometimes I have to check-in parts that I would otherwise delete.

I am supposed to be a manager, providing technical guidance, not a Windchill-rat’s-nest-detangler. Of course it would be easier to have the supplier on our Windchill server, but that is not an option at the moment. Plus, they would hate me if I spread this curse to them.

Does anyone else work on large assemblies with and outside vender? If you could help me with any one of these problems I would appreciate it.

Hope it had been a good start with 2013.

In the typical Windchill header ribbon, there would be Windchill logo in the left and few useful links at the right.  These links include Event Manager, Clipboard, Help, E-mail Page, Hot Links, Copy Page, Recently Accessed and Search.

Now how do I add and position my own link at the right and upon clicking that link, an intranet site would get opened in a new internet window?

I'm loading attributes into Windchill using the batch load functionality. Generally, things work okay but I"m looking for a way to include a default value for attributes. For example, how can I specify a Dash "-" as the default for an attribute.

There's any body have an idea how to manage Merge reference model from the CAD document in the WTPart BOM structure?

It seems that out-of-the-box there is no way to have a member link between that merge model from the CAD document and the WTPart structure.

So basically here is my situation:

Within my company we create a lot of CASTING model which we create with the Merge Inheritance function in Creo Parametric. This to be able to have the base model with over stock and draft, what we call the RAW model from which we start to create the final model with machining feature. 

So basicall my issue is that I need to pobulated  that RAW model within my EBOM structure so the procurement team can order RAW and the MACHINE PART

Here is the default WTPART structure generated from the CAD structure

PS: Within that example the X-1 is a PART link with a CAD-DOCUMENT that have a merge inheritance!! At first I would appreciate to be able to see that Merge reference by default in the PART structure:

So the only alternative we have so far is to insert the RAW model at the same level as the MACHINE PART. But this mean that we have to insert the raw manually each time we use the MACHINING PART... 

Did any body have face that kind of issue and manage it a more efficient way?

My next step is to develop a component list REPORT with specific filter but this not seem to be easy!!

I have a small question - maybe someone already found a solution for it...

In Intralink 3.4 the login field was already prefilled with the WIN variable %username%. Is there any way at all to do this on PDMLink? I have the situation that some designers have two users with different access rights to the PDMLink database. It would be very helpful if I could prefill the login so that they cannot mix up the two logins.
