Use of "calculated link" in webject - need help

$

Hi everybody,

I am trying to get information about creo drawing object (in WIndchill 10.1) and I hit the wall. So far I was able to get information about creo drawing using "Query-Links" webject, and it looked fine, at first, but. The creo part is a part of a assembly and assembly also has a drawing so instead of getting one I got to drawing objects.

<ie:webject name="Query-Links" type="OBJ">

      <ie:param name="INSTANCE"              data="<%=wtInstance%>"/>

      <ie:param name="TYPE"                  data="wt.epm.structure.EPMReferenceLink"/>

      <ie:param name="DIRECTION"             data="referencedBy"/>

      <ie:param name="OBJECT_REF"            data="VR:wt.epm.EPMDocument:162399"/>

      <ie:param name="AUTO_NAVIGATE"           data="TRUE"/>

      <ie:param name="SELECTEDBY"           data="LATEST"/>

      <ie:param name="OUTPUT_TYPE"           data="FULL"/>

      <ie:param name="ATTRIBUTE"              data="number,name" delim=","/>

      <ie:param name="GROUP_OUT"             data="output"/>

   </ie:webject>

I also tried bunch of other different link types (EPMDerivedRepRule, EPMDerivedRepRule, EPMDescribeLink, ...) but with out result. I stumble on the peace of text in the one of Windchill manuals that say "An association between a part and the engineering drawing derived from its owner-associated CAD model is automatically created upon initial upload. This association is labeled Calculated, and is not a modeled “link” in the database, but is an included association type when CAD documents are collected for actions."

So if anybody can give me advice or point to right direction what is "the name" of calculated link so it can be used in webject (or this can't be done) or is there any other way to get reference to drawing of particular creo part.

Thanks!

Retrieving a Attribute from an Object Using an Expression in a Workflow

$

Hi All,

I need to retrieve an attribute ("Operation") which which I have added to a Change Notice in a workflow expression - since the value of this attribute alters downstream activities.

So far I have got as far as:

wt.change2.WTChangeOrder2 co = (wt.change2.WTChangeOrder2)primaryBusinessObject;

String coOperation = ...

Also by using the above code, does it matter that I want to retrieve the attribute from a soft type of the change notice.

Any help would be great.

Importing and Exporting from Windchill

This process seems simple enough, but in Windchill it’s a nightmare. Here are the problems I get:

-I try to keep the instances out of my workspace for performance reasons. When I export from workspace, Windchill brings in every instance. My workspace goes from 2000 objects to 8000 objects. I have a custom view, that allows me to delete them faster, but this is time I don’t have.

-Import to workspace doesn’t work. It doesn’t recognize that the family table parts of the same name are in fact, the same parts.

-Importing deletes everything from session. It seems that the Pro/E core must be used to determine parent-child relationships.

-Some of the assemblies have hundreds or thousands of parts. This process is very slow. I have had this process take a week and as many as 23 premature exits in one day.

-If someone at my company renames the generic of a family table, I get incurable name conflicts and premature exits.

-If someone at my company creates one of the parts with the same name, I can’t rename my supplier’s part.

-to rename a part, I have to set my session to work offline with no server, rename the part, connect back to the server, and then save. This takes 20 minuets! 17 of the 20 minuets is just me staring at the hour glass.

-Once I have all of the models in my workspace I have to get rid of all of the name conflicts. Sometimes I use update, sometimes add works. Sometimes I have to delete all the instances, and then updates. I have thousands of these stupid name conflicts and each one need its own special attention.

-Some secret relations are created between parts. These cannot be found in the relationship viewer and are not ghost objects. It sometimes thinks that two totally unrelated parts must be checked in together. Sometimes I have to check-in parts that I would otherwise delete.

I am supposed to be a manager, providing technical guidance, not a Windchill-rat’s-nest-detangler. Of course it would be easier to have the supplier on our Windchill server, but that is not an option at the moment. Plus, they would hate me if I spread this curse to them.

Does anyone else work on large assemblies with and outside vender? If you could help me with any one of these problems I would appreciate it.

I am using Windchill PDMLink 9.1 with WF4 M110. We don’t use WTParts. Our network is a little slow

Tiff import in drawing

Hello,

I want to import a tiff file in Creo drawing.

I am doing it by;

Object --> Create from File --> Browse the Tiff file

But the tiff file is viewed as empty block & nothing can be viewed except the name of the file. See attached image.

The same tiff file works fine on another Creo machine. So definitely some config setting is missing on my machine.

Let me know if you need additional information.

Thank you in anticipation.

When to use Secondary Content (Attachments)?

For Document management in Windchill, I am seeking input on when to use Primary vs. Secondary Content as well as Object naming, in general.  First, with regards to Object Naming, some are recommending we name a Document record 123TBD.docx while others recommend simply 123TBD (w/ no file extension).  Note the Primary Content in this example would be the 123TBD.doc.  Also, if there is a 123TBD.xls which supports this document some are recommending we include this as Secondary content while others recommend creating a 123TBD WT Part along with a 123TDB.xls document record and associate both the .doc and .xls objects to the WT Part.   Any thoughts on this subject are greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

I am creating development system for Windchill9.1 M040.

But, we have no money.

So, we used opensource solutions.

  • DELL PowerEdge T105
  • VMWare ESXi Server 4.0.0(208111) (free)
  • CentOS5.5 64bit (free)
  • Oracle Database 10g R2 Express Edition for Linux (free)
  • Windchill9.1M040(PDML+PJL) JAPANESE Edition

It's work! And good performance.

Does nobody have the same experience?

Can I generate an HTML fragment in DataUtility?

Hello all.

I am trying to display custom HTML fragment inside the OOTB attribute panel. I already created a controller that generates the fragment.

Can I use this controller to substitute attribute value using Data Utility?

As an example I could use com.ptc.carambola.rendering.HTMLComponent to display custom HTML in the attribute:

HTMLComponent hc = new HTMLComponent("<a href='www.google.com'> Goole Link </a>" );

But I need help figuring out how to dynamically generate that HTML.

Windchill R10.1

Any help is very much appreciated.

How do I set a soft type change task to a custom task workflow?

Currently I have one soft type change task that I have been using for over a year and it is set to a a custom task workflow.  I have created another soft type change task and new custom task workflow.  We will call them CCT2 and CCW2.  The originals are called CCT1 and CCW1.  From the change notice, when I create my task, I can choose either CCT1 or CCT2.  No matter which one I choose, I get CCW1 for my process workflow.  How do I get CCT2 to use CCW2 workflow?  I copied CCW2 from CCW1 and modified the flow for a shortened version of CCW1.

I'm using Windchill 10.1.

Thanks for any help.

Ok, this crap is driving me freakin crazy!

They came back to me with the following change that they say needed to be made in Oracle:

I had IT execute this in the system and it completed successfully, but yet the problem still remains....

I am creating development system for Windchill9.1 M040.

But, we have no money.

So, we used opensource solutions.

  • DELL PowerEdge T105
  • VMWare ESXi Server 4.0.0(208111) (free)
  • CentOS5.5 64bit (free)
  • Oracle Database 10g R2 Express Edition for Linux (free)
  • Windchill9.1M040(PDML+PJL) JAPANESE Edition

It's work! And good performance.

Does nobody have the same experience?

Regards,

Corrupted cache

Pro/E crashed last night. I restarted and found I'd lost everything I'd done yesterday, despite saving every 1/2hr or so. You'd think I'd lose only what I hadn't saved, not everything since I last checked in the work. I'm on WF3 and (unfortunately) PDMLink/Windchill 8 point whatever. I seem to remember at my last job that a guy sent an e-mail around saying the same thing happened to him without warning when he reached (I seem to remember) 2 gig in cache size. I just checked, and mine's 2.14 gig. Hmmmm.... Ok, here's another weird thing. In the much superior Intralink, we had &quot;frames&quot; (a snapshot of all files at whatever iteration when you saved anything). Great feature! You could go back and look, or recover the state of your workspace at whatever frame you wanted. So, PDMLink won't have frames until Ver 9. So, why, in my cache, do I have almost 2 gig(!!) of &quot;lid&quot; (lid_110637.wfcont) and &quot;sid&quot; (sid_1209957.wfcont) files? These SEEM to be iterative versions of parts, assemblies, drawings, etc. as you can change the extension to &quot;.prt, .asm, or .drw etc. and if you guess right you can actually open the file. So, are these what PTC uses behind the scenes to create frames? If so, and we don't have frames in PDMLink 8, why are they accumulating, and how do I delete them like we were able to clear the frames in Intralink? If I delete them all, will that corrupt my database or lose me more data? Better yet, if there are no frames now, how do I keep them from accumulating in the first place? Anyone else seen this? Any ideas on what the lid and sid files do? Thanks.

State Workflow

I am looking for assistance on creating a workflow template that would do the following:

If an EPM document is manually (outside the revision process) set to "in work" and stays at this state for more than 3 days, the workflow would send them an e-mail reminder to set back to released state.  When the user gets the e-mail, the workflow would start over and give the user another 2 days before emailing again, this would continue until the item is back to released.  This would jab the user to get the item back to released ASAP.

The revision process (we revise from release which creates a new version at in work) and new docs would not be subject to this process.  We don't run into this often....be we do have new users that sometimes make mistakes and set cad docs to in work, then forgetting to clean up after themselves.  I cannot lock this function down as we use family tables everywhere....BAD.  We have a test server, so I can mess around as much as needed.

This will be my first workflow....so keep the answers to a Windchill 6 month old level.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
